Celebrating Pentecost

The administrator at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in the southwestern United States since 2008, Father Thomas Maikowski also participates part-time in Air Force ministries.

Under the direction of Father Thomas Maikowski, the church celebrates events such as the Pentecost in grand fashion to connect and communicate with its community. One of the Church’s earliest celebrations, Pentecost Sunday, commemorates the decent of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and of Jesus Christ after the resurrection. Pentecost, in the Christian faith, represents the fulfillment of the prophecy of Luke’s gospel. Sometimes referred to as the birth of the Catholic Church, Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after Easter Sunday. The liturgy of the contemporary Catholic Church often includes predominant displays of the color red and other symbols of the Holy Spirit. Some Christian churches accept new members or perform baptisms on Pentecost Sunday as a way to remember its history and traditions.
